The Indo-Pacific sergeant has a blue tint to its dark stripes; the Hawaiian sergeant doesn't. The yellow stripe is lower down on the Hawaiian sergeant as well.
These are frequently seen guarding their purple eggs. When divers move close enough to scare the sergeant, other fish will munch on the eggs. Sergeants seem to lay enough eggs this isn't a serious problem, but still try to keep from scaring them with other fish around.
