Add third dive +$60 / person
Guaranteed private tour +$50 (flat rate for 1-4 divers)
Dive light rental +$10 / person
GoPro rental +$35
DPV rental +$150
(Requires DPV Certification or the DPV Adventure Dive)

Reservations recommended. No refund for cancellations <24 hours before tour start (including no-shows), unless I can fill your spot.

Equipment rental (tanks/weights/gear) not included; I recommend Diver Dan's if you're coming from the Bay Area or Aquarius if you're already in Monterey. Note that on weekdays, dive shops in Monterey open at 9am, too late for a morning dive.

If we're doing multiple days of diving in a row, I'll need a hotel room (and I recommend you get one too). Driving down from the Bay Area two days in a row is not fun. Cost depends on time of year and weekday vs. weekend.

For most classes, you'll also need to purchase the PADI textbook from your local dive shop, or do the PADI eLearning online. Some classes require additional gear (for example, you'll need a DSMB to take the DSMB Diver specialty, and it's kinda hard to do Dry Suit Diver without a dry suit).

Some examples of instructor fees:

PADI Open Water Diver

WhatCurrent Rate
PADI Open Water eLearning Purchase directly from the PADI Website.
Course registration fee $50 / student
Pool session (3 hours) $170 (1 student) or $120 / person (2-4 students)
(Diver Dan's charges a separate $25 pool fee for use of their gear)
Ocean day (2 dives) $300 (1 student) or $225 / person (2-4 students)
(Rent gear separately from Diver Dan's or another dive shop)
Certification fee $50 / student
(Includes PADI Open Water card)

Why do I charge by the lesson instead of giving a single rate for the entire class? So we can take as much time as you need to feel comfortable. If that's 3 pool sessions, great! If you need a 4th session to work out buoyancy issues, or gain confidence with mask skills, I want you to have that time so that you hit the ocean feeling confident. Alternately, if you're an outstanding student, or you've already done part of the course with another instructor (maybe you're switching from a group class), I'm not charging you for training time you don't need. Or you want to do one day in the ocean with me, and then do your second day in the ocean on vacation.

Doing the whole course with me (registration, 3 pool sessions, 2 ocean days, certification) typically works out to an instructor fee of $1225 (1 diver) or $910 / person (2-4 divers).

An open water referral (registration, 3 pool sessions) typically works out to an instructor fee of $575 (1 diver) or $410 / person (2-4 divers).
