GoPro rental | +$35 |
DPV rental | +$150 (1 dive) or $180 (2 dives) (Requires DPV Certification or the DPV Adventure Dive.) |
Reservations recommended. No refund for cancellations <24 hours before tour start (including no-shows), unless I can fill your spot.
Equipment rental (tanks/weights/gear) not included. I have some available if you're doing a class with me. If you need more, I recommend Diver Dan's if you're coming from the Bay Area or Aquarius if you're already in Monterey. Note that on weekdays, dive shops in Monterey open at 9am, too late for a morning dive.
If we're doing multiple days of diving in a row, I'll need a hotel room (and I recommend you get one too). Driving down from the Bay Area two days in a row is not fun. Cost depends on time of year and weekday vs. weekend.

Add individual Adventure Dive to a guided dive | +$30 / person (Includes knowledge review and skill practice during the dive.) |
Scuba Refresher or Underwater Photography pool session | $165 (1 diver) or $110 / person (2-4 divers) (Up to 3 hours; Diver Dan's charges a separate $25 pool fee for use of their gear.) |

For most classes, you'll also need to purchase the PADI textbook from your local dive shop, or do the PADI eLearning online. Some classes require additional gear (for example, you'll need a DSMB to take the DSMB Diver specialty, and it's kinda hard to do Dry Suit Diver without a dry suit).
Some examples of instructor fees:
- Underwater Naturalist is a 2-dive specialty. For one person, $210 for a 2-tank guided dive + $100 for the class = $310 total.
- Deep Diver is a 4-dive specialty. If two divers wanted to do 2 dives at Monastery and two dives off a boat, the cost would be $220 for Monastery, $160 for 2-tank boat guided dives, and $160 for the class = $540/person (plus the cost of the boat).
- Advanced Open Water takes 5 dives. Two divers could do 3 shore dives in one day, and then 2 boat dives on a second day. The cost would be $160 for a 2-tank dive + $60 for the third dive on the first day, $160 for a 2-tank dive on the second day, and $190 for the 5-dive class = $570/person (plus the boat).
- A diver who already has the Dry Suit and Deep Diver specialties only needs 3 more dives to finish Advanced Open Water. The cost would be $210 for a 2-tank dive + $60 for the third dive, and then $130 for a 3-dive class = $400 total.
- Two divers want to do two dives, with one of them being the Underwater Navigation adventure dive. The cost would be $160 for a 2-tank dive + $30 for the adventure dive = $190/person.

PADI Open Water Diver
What | Current Rate |
---|---|
PADI Open Water eLearning | Purchase directly from the PADI Website. |
Course registration fee | $50 / student |
Pool session (3 hours) | $190 (1 student) or $140 / person (2-4 students) (Diver Dan's charges a separate $25 pool fee for use of their gear) |
Ocean day (2 dives) | $310 (1 student) or $235 / person (2-4 students) (Rent gear separately from Diver Dan's or another dive shop) |
Certification fee | $50 / student (Includes PADI Open Water card) |
Why do I charge by the lesson instead of giving a single rate for the entire class? So we can take as much time as you need to feel comfortable. If that's 3 pool sessions, great! If you need a 4th session to work out buoyancy issues, or gain confidence with mask skills, I want you to have that time so that you hit the ocean feeling confident. Alternately, if you're an outstanding student, or you've already done part of the course with another instructor (maybe you're switching from a group class), I'm not charging you for training time you don't need. Or you want to do one day in the ocean with me, and then do your second day in the ocean on vacation.
Doing the whole course with me (registration, 3 pool sessions, 2 ocean days, certification) typically works out to an instructor fee of $1290 (1 diver) or $990 / person (2-4 divers).
An open water referral (registration, 3 pool sessions) typically works out to an instructor fee of $620 (1 diver) or $470 / person (2-4 divers).
